Chattbir Zoo also known as Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park is located close to Zirakpur. Zoo was established in the year 1970, but the inauguration ceremony was done on 13 April 1977 by then Punjab Governor Mahendra Mohan Choudhury. It serves as home to various birds, reptiles and mammals. Earlier the zoo had a smaller number of animals, but soon the animals were bought from Assam and Guwahati zoo. It occupies an area of 202 acres, and due to this, it became northern India’s largest zoo.
