Sharing is caring, they say. But it doesn’t have to be limited to material objects like food and stationery. In the times that we live in, our sharing extends beyond that; we share digital currency, we share prepaid call-balance, and we even share our internet connection.
Sharing your mobile internet by creating a WiFi Hotspot is great, but what if you want to do the same with your broadband connection? What do you do if you want to share your home internet with only a specific list of friends or neighbours? And what do you do if your company is hosting a big event and you want to share WiFi temporarily with your guests? Griggi is the answer.
What is Griggi?
Featured recently in NextBigWhat, Griggi is the brainchild of a group of IITians from Madras who believe that a social WiFi could be the next useful thing for the connected Indians of today. Griggi is a piece of software that installs on your WiFi router, and creates an additional WiFi network with the suffix ‘-Griggi’ and allows you to control its sharing with the people you want. All you need to do is hand your guests their respective usernames and passwords and they can log in with ease.
Every time you share your WiFi using Griggi, you earn Karma GBs (free data) that you can then use to borrow from another Griggi user when you are in need of internet. Optionally, you may choose to pay for borrowing WiFi internet in case you run out of Karma GBs. Griggi also gives the host complete control over the amount of data being borrowed by the guests.
Griggi is a great setup for places like cafés and coworking spaces where internet access is crucial but also sometimes restricted and complex to connect to. Griggi simplifies the entire sharing process while maintaining complete control and security over the WiFi network being shared.
What’s also great is that SNEED is partnering with Griggi to make their social WiFi concept available in as many coworking spaces as possible. So don’t be too surprised if your next SNEED workspace has easy Griggi WiFi connectivity; it’s only a sign of the future.
